Raising Support “For Jack” By Sean Allen of the Brant News

Big thanks as always to Sean Allen of the Brant News for the great coverage!

With the outpouring of support for federal NDP leader Jack Layton in his fight against cancer, members of the Brant NDP decided to turn that support into good.

“We wanted to do something to raise funds in Jack’s name,” Marc Laferriere said. “(We) had an idea for a ribbon that evolved into a T-shirt design. It’s a very simple design with a ribbon and it says ‘For Jack’ on the shirt.” Laferriere, who ran in this year’s federal election in Brant, and Brian Van Tilborg, the candidate in the coming provincial election, had their inboxes fill up in the days following Layton’s announcement that he would be battling a new bout of cancer. Laferriere said people were sending support and well-wishes across all political stripes so they decided to give people a way to raise money in the fight against cancer.

Lucas Duguid of local company Octopus Red donated the design to the Brant NDP and Custom Colour T-shirts came on board to print them. The proceeds will go to support the Canadian Cancer Society.

“There has been so much non-partisan support for Jack,” Laferriere said. “It’s universal. I don’t think there is a family in the entire country that hasn’t been affected by cancer.” The $18 T-shirts can be ordered by phoning 519-756-3616 or emailing marc@brantndp.ca. Once a week, Custom Colours T-shirts will print to the orders and the proceeds will then be sent to the cancer society.

Anyone who’s from Brantford will know the name Dr. Ling… he’s been a dentist in this city since 1975. they just moved from West St to Clarence St and opened a facility that looks more like a spa in Los Angeles than a dental studio in small town Canada. i got a chance to work with D’arcy and Angela from Empirical Photographic Arts who handled the photo shoot for this account… the best graphic design projects always start with great photography…. big thanks to mark for bringing us back together for another great project.

martinus geleynse election campaign…

I was thrilled when Martinus asked us to help with his election campaign… he gets a gold star for being one of the most laid back clients we’ve ever worked with 🙂 He’s got a lot of really great ideas, he enjoys the support of so many in his community but above all his energy and enthusiasm for the City of Hamilton and the people of Hamilton is contagious. We had a great time working on the creative for Martinus’ Hamilton 24 Festival and I’m sure this will be no different.

Big thanks to Darren Whear for the photography and the framework by Deb Hazlewood of EncompassDesign.

a brave new day…

The last two weeks have been really exciting. We’ve made some big strides with Rotary Brantford’s Clowns for Kids committee and their 2010 fundraiser. Introducing social networking to Rotary Brantford has been a very rewarding experience… it’s nice getting people past the fear of the unknown and watching them thrive when they see the potential of things like YouTube and Twitter.

We made some new connections in the Hamilton area with some great new partners… photographers, film makers, PR specialists, copy writers & marketers… we’ll be doing some very cool and very high-end marketing and design for some big names in the Hamilton / Golden Horseshoe area under the name “NU Integrated Marketing + Communications”.

To top it all off we’ve got our very first summer student… Carley Gallant has joined our team and we’re thrilled to have her aboard. Carley is a bright girl with a talent for two-dimensional animation, stop-motion animation and traditional Illustration. She’s got a ton of very cool ideas and we can’t wait to turn her loose on her first project.

Stay tuned!
